Homemade Guacamole and Chips

Guacamole is a dip made from avocados, and originally from Mexico. The name is derived from two Aztec Nahuatl words – ahuacatl (avocado) and molli (sauce). The trick to perfect guacamole is to use the ripest avocados! We check for ripeness by gently pressing the outside of the avocado. If there is no give, the avocado is not ripe yet and will not taste good. If there is a little give, the avocado is ripe.

Avocado is one of the most beneficial fruit for our health. It protects cholesterol related heart diseases and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

However, unfortunately many people are hostile to this fruit because of high fat content. In fact, Avocado contain unsaturated fat which is good for health in higher portion. Avocados are also rich sources of vitamins A, C, E, K, vitamin B6, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, fiber, magnesium and copper.

The Avocado Advantages:
Weight Control
Contrary to popular assumptions, the avocado can be a helpful part of a successful weight-management program. It brings several advantages:
Its monounsaturated fat speeds up the basal metabolic rate, as compared with saturated fat. Its high fat content gives a quicker feeling of satiation “fullness”, thus helping to reduce overeating. Its high fat content makes an overall sound diet more palatable, reducing the temptation to binge on foods high in sugars or saturated fats. Its rich supply of vitamins and minerals also makes the diet more wholesome and satisfying and thus more conducive to overall health and to moderation in consumption.

Our classic guacamole recipe is made with ripe avocados, Serrano chiles, cilantro and lime, garnished with red radishes and jicama. Served with tortilla chips.
